Boating Season 2025 Begins

Both runabouts are back in the water after almost eight and a half months on the hard. Too long! We launched the Chris-Craft on Wednesday (a perfect summer prequel nestled between chillier, damper days), and we’ve just launched the Nautique this afternoon. So it’s official: boating season 2025 begins today!

Sort of…

Except for tomorrow. Saturday’s forecast is for a high of 59° tapering back down to 49° by midnight and and 95% chance of rain starting at 4:00 AM right through until 8:00 PM.

But no sense getting gloomy. I say, let the boating season 2025 begin. Sure, it’ll be a couple of days before we can *properly* commemorate a return to Lake Champlain boating, but as soon as the sun comes out, we’ll be heading out.

It’s worth noting that I brought the Vermont Dory, Adirondack Guide Boat, and canoe down to the beach, a couple of weeks ago. So it might be my fault that we’ve had all of this rain? Hubris punished! I had anticipated jump starting the boating season with some early morning rows. But the inclement weather has adversely affected both rowing and cycling. That said, I’ve managed three good morning rides in a row. With a recovery day tomorrow, I’m hoping to be back in the saddle by Sunday. Unless the lake is perfect for rowing?

It’s also worth noting that starting out fifth summer sans sailboat. This May/June moment marks exactly 4 years since selling Errant, our 31’ sloop. The search for a replacement continues, and one of these days I’ll find the perfect replacement to the Catalina 310 that we rehomed to a fine family from Vermont in the spring of 2021.

For now, our wind-powered watersports are windsurfing, and — newly — winging (Susan) and kiting (me). But I’m getting ahead of myself. WAY ahead of myself! It’s more than a little premature to claim the last two wind-powered watersports. We’re still newbies. With a week, really, one 3-hour lesson and four 2-hour lessons winging and kiting, we’re still beginners. But our enthusiasm is only exceeded by our ambition. I can’t wait to become competent at this sailing-meets-flying sport. (I’m looking for mentors. Any recommendations?)

As boating season 2025 begins, I will double down on my search for a replacement sailboat, and I will triple down on my kiteboarding ambitions!
