There are rewards aplenty for rising early, but one of the more dramatic is the opportunity to experience dawn’s early light.

Whether awakening to sunrise in the Sky Islands on morning number three of a rugged bikepacking odyssey or stretching for a kiteboarding session on Long Bay, there’s an especially potent quality to dawn’s early light. The warm glow of promise. The crisp edges, shadows, and contrasts. The invigorating energy of possibility.

But most wholesome and comforting of all is dawn’s early light at home. Hot mug in hand. Dog at heal. Or wandering distracted nearby. Still cool. But the enveloping hues of sunrise prologue more generous temperatures.

Fence, gate, columns, entablature, lintels, and cornice are distinctly luminous, as if emanating light rather than reflecting it. And the brick facade, tan at midday, glows golden ochre-au-lait while many are still slumbering.
Rewards aplenty…
